Apple working on major TV app redesign, expected to release with tvOS 17.2 in December

Apple is reportedly working on a major overhaul to its TV app, with the iPhone maker said to be phasing out its dedicated “iTunes movies” and “iTunes TV shows” apps on Apple TV, and remove those options from the iTunes Store on iPhone and iPad, to make the TV app the all-in-one app for everything relating to TV, movies and streaming.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is working to release its TV app overhaul in December, likely with the release of tvOS 17.2. “The revamped app on the Apple TV box will include a new side panel on the left-hand side for navigating between video categories, matching a design aesthetic used by Netflix Inc. and other streaming services,” says Gurman.
“Apple Inc. will redesign its TV app in a step toward consolidating the company’s various video offerings later this year, according to people with knowledge of the matter, part of its efforts to become a bigger player in the streaming world.”
According to the report, Apple’s aim with the redesign is to consolidate its “various video offerings” into a single place.
