Apple may not make more than 300,000 first-generation mixed-reality headsets, research firm suggests

Apple is expected to unveil its long-awaited, long-rumored mixed-reality headset next month at WWDC23, with reports suggesting that the device will be priced over $3000 and will be primarily targeted at a niche audience, including developers, businesses and gaming engineers.
With the debut nearing, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce has reported that shipments of the first-generation mixed-reality headset could fall below the previous estimate of 100,000 units this year, claiming that Apple may not make more than 300,000 first-generation headsets altogether.
The insight (via MacRumors) suggests that in addition to the high price point, manufacturing complications could also limit the reach of the first Apple AR/VR headset, with a more affordable second-generation rumored to be in development for a launch near 2025, which is expected to see the headset begin to be marketed towards the average consumer.
