Apple Pay now available in South Korea

Apple has expanded Apple Pay to users in South Korea, with the service now available to customers banking with Hyundai Card.
An eleventh hour review by regulators pushed back Apple’s original plan to launch Apple Pay support in South Korea late last year, with local government requiring a review of parts of the Apple Pay service before it could be launched to consumers, putting a holt to Apple’s expansion plans late in the process.
Apple Pay usage in South Korea is expected to be relatively low compared to other markets around the world, due to a low number of supported NFC-enabled payment terminals in the country, although the expansion of the service today will undoubtedly boost usage of contactless payments at supported locations.
Beginning today, Hyundai Card customers are able to add their bank cards to the Wallet app on iPhone to make Apple Pay purchases in-store and online. More banks in the country are likely to gain support for Apple Pay over the coming months.
