Tap to Pay on iPhone support available to over 700,000 US businesses through new partnership

Support for Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone feature, which allows businesses to take Apple Pay and contactless payments using nothing but an iPhone, has been made available to 700,000 new businesses in the US through a partnership between payment gateway Stripe and e-commerce platform Wix.
Announced on Monday, using the Wix Owner App and a compatible iPhone, merchants can now seamlessly accept and process contactless payments through Wix with only an iPhone from contactless credit or debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets.
Apple announced its new “Tap to Pay on iPhone” feature in February last year. The feature theoretically turns the iPhone into a payment terminal, with businesses able to accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets through a simple tap of their iPhone.
“Tap to Pay on iPhone lets merchants accept and process contactless payments in seconds without additional hardware,” said John Affaki, Terminal Business Lead at Stripe. “Wix merchants and their customers can use Tap to Pay on iPhone anywhere knowing they’re completing fast and secure payment transactions using iPhone.”
As of right now, there’s no word on when Apple might expand Tap to Pay on iPhone support outside the US.
