Apple not actively working on second-generation HomePod mini, says Gurman
Apple isn’t actively working on a second-generation HomePod mini, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who says he doesn’t believe Apple is developing an update to the mini model anytime soon following the surprise launch of Apple’s upgraded full-sized HomePod this week.
Within his weekly Power On newsletter on Sunday, Gurman says “After the debut of a new full-sized HomePod, many users started asking about an update to the mini model. But at this point, I don’t believe that Apple is actively working on such as product. The latest HomePod doesn’t include any major new functions that aren’t already in the $99 mini, so there isn’t an obvious reason to update the model.”
Apple launched the HomePod mini in 2020 and has been slowly expanding the availability of the speaker since by launching Siri compatibility in various new countries and regions around the world.
Apple added three new colors to the HomePod mini line up the following year but has since otherwise remained focused on providing software updates to the speaker and widening its supported languages.
“Sure, it would be nice to get more colors, a cheaper price, and better sound and microphones, but the real improvements probably need to be made on the back end — with Siri and app integration,” said Gurman.
