Apple unlikely to release previously rumored 12-inch MacBook anytime soon

Mid last year, it was rumored that Apple was considering a new 12-inch MacBook that could see the iPhone maker return its discontinued MacBook series that the company abandoned with the discontinuation of the 12-inch Retina MacBook in 2019, although since then, no details about the rumored new machine have been shared.
Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said that “A new 12-inch MacBook is no longer on Apple’s near-term road map”, suggesting that it is unlikely the rumored machine will be released any time soon (or at all), aligning with a previous insight by reliable Display Supply Chain Consultants analyst Ross Young, who said last year that supply chain sources were unaware of any plans for a new 12-inch MacBook.
Over the past several years, Apple has been increasing the sizes of its MacBook displays rather than decreasing them, so the prospect of a smaller 12-inch MacBook always sounded peculiar.
It us unclear whether Apple scrapped the plans for a 12-inch MacBook shortly after rumors started to circulate, or if there was even any official plans in the first place to begin with.

Bloomberg now expects Apple to launch a 15-inch MacBook Air later this year, offering a larger option above the 13.6-inch display of the current-generation model.
