New full-size HomePod rumored to launch next year
Apple is expected to be working on a new full-size HomePod set to release in 2023, launching as a predecessor to the original model that was discontinued last year.
According to an insight from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared earlier this year, Apple is said to be working on a new full-size HomePod to replace the original first released in 2018, saying the new speaker will be a similar size to the original 6.8-inch tall model, reportedly featuring an updated display on the top that could offer multi-touch functionality.
Details on what to expect from Apple’s new full-size HomePod weren’t shared, with respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo saying in May that he believed a new HomePod was in development, with code from Apple’s first iOS 16 developer beta unearthing references to an unreleased model named “AudioAccessory6,” which seemingly confirmed the existence of a new version of the Siri smart speaker.
Following Kuo’s report in spring, Gurman later corroborated the report, saying that the new speaker will be a similar size to the original 6.8-inch tall model introduced in 2018, reportedly featuring an updated display on the top that could offer multi-touch functionality, later saying Apple was considering an updated version of the HomePod mini which is unlikely to offer anything “super-impressive.”
