iOS 16: Everything new in Messages
Apple has released iOS 16, adding four major new features in Messages, including the ability to undo sent messages, mark messages and conversations as unread, edit sent messages, and an all-new audio messages experience, with hands-free recording, playback controls, and more.
With iOS 16, if a user notices a spelling mistake after sending an iMessage, they will be able to edit the message within the Messages thread. If they wish to mark a conversation as unopened to read later, they will be able to do so through the Messages app, and if they send a message by mistake, they will be able to delete it from the conversation for all recipients.
Finally, Apple has redesigned the audio messages experience with iOS 16, making it easier to record and listen to audio clips sent through iMessage. For instance, when recording a voice message, users can go hands-free with one tap, removing the need to have their finger pressed down on the microphone icon to record a message.
While the message is recording, a new option to swipe up and go full screen shows the user an animation of their voice message as it is being recorded, and when listening back to a received voice message the user can fast forward and rewind with a swipe.
