Apple on track to launch new full-size HomePod in early 2023, updated HomePod mini under consideration
As previously rumored, Apple is said to be working on a new full-size HomePod model to replace the original speaker that Apple discontinued last year, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggesting in this week’s Power On newsletter that the updated model is on track to release as soon as early 2023.
Respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was first to report in May that he believed a new HomePod was in development, with code from Apple’s first iOS 16 developer beta unearthing references to an unreleased model named “AudioAccessory6,” which seemingly confirmed a new version of the Siri smart speaker was being worked on.
Gurman then later corroborated the report, saying that the new speaker will be a similar size to the original 6.8-inch tall model introduced in 2018, reportedly featuring an updated display on the top that could offer multi-touch functionality.
Now, Gurman has suggested that in addition to an updated original HomePod, Apple is considering an updated version of the HomePod mini which is unlikely to offer anything “super-impressive,” without any further details on what the upgraded model could bring.
