Apple’s mixed-reality headset expected to launch in early 2023, second-generation model expected in 2024

Apple is expected to announce its long-rumored mixed-reality headset early next year, described as offering “an excellent immersive experience” supporting augmented reality/virtual reality with video see-thru. However, the headset is rumored to be replaced with an even more advanced model the year after, according to ETNews.
In a new report, ETNews claims that as soon as a year after launch, Apple could release a second-generation version of the mixed-reality headset with substantial upgrades including the ability to make calls with a much lighter design that will make the device more comfortable to wear.
The report claims the second-generation headset is already in development, with respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claiming last month that Apple will lift the curtain on its highly-anticipated first-generation model as soon as January next year, with the iPhone maker expected to become a “game-changer for the headset industry.”
The first-generation device will reportedly feature two ultra-high-resolution 8K displays with a “bevy” of other features, including advanced eye-tracking technology and the ability to pass video of the real world through the visor and display it to the user, offering a “mixed-reality effect.” It will mark Apple’s first major new product launch since the original Apple Watch in October 2014.
Last year we saw The Information publish a sketch of the upcoming headset, claiming to have seen secret internal imagery from an unnamed source “with direct knowledge” of the development, reporting that the device will offer a “sleek, curved visor attached to the face by a mesh material and swappable headbands.”

Concept creator Ian Zelbo has released visuals showing what Apple’s new headset will probably look like based on earlier leaked information, featuring an Apple Watch-style adjustable headband and an AirPods Max reminiscent mesh cushion for comfort around the wearer’s eyes.
