iPhone 14 Pro to feature always-on display with iOS 16 widgets, says Mark Gurman

Changes to the iPhone Lock Screen are arguably iOS 16’s most major update, bringing new personalization options that allow users to change the look of the date and time with type styles and colour choices, add widgets to their Lock Screen to get information at a glance, such as upcoming calendar events, the weather and battery levels, relocated notifications, and more.
According to Mark Gurman, the new Lock Screen widgets in iOS 16 are paving the way for an always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, with the device rumored to offer Apple Watch-style glanceable information on-screen all the time while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate.
An always-on display as long been rumored to be making an appearance with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max later this year. The device will darken the display when the screen is locked, showing users their Lock Screen widgets such as the weather, calendars, stocks, activities and other data without the user having to wake their iPhone.
“Like the Apple Watch, the iPhone 14 Pro will be able to show widgets displaying weather, calendars, stocks, activities and other data while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate,” wrote Gurman in the latest edition of his weekly Power On newsletter. “And there will be a setting—also like the Apple Watch—that keeps sensitive data from appearing on the lock screen for all to see.”
Last month YouTuber and leaker Jon Prosser shared a set of concept images showing us what the iPhone 14 Pro will probably look like, featuring pill-shape and circular display cutouts, new purple finish, and more.
