Apple Watch SE 2 reportedly keeping same screen size as current model
Apple’s next-generation Apple Watch SE 2 will reportedly keep the same screen size as the current model, with Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman suggesting in this week’s edition of his “Power On” newsletter that the wearable won’t see a display increase to match the size of the Apple Watch Series 7, although the new wearable could get the same S8 chip expected to launch with this year’s new Apple Watch Series 8.
Apple launched the original Apple Watch SE in 2018, featuring the S5 chip with 44mm a 40mm case sizes. This year’s second-generation is expected to replace the ageing Apple Watch Series 3 which Apple continues to sell, despite the device not being capable of running watchOS 9, which will release later this year, and requiring a factory reset each time a new watchOS update is released.
Gurman has previously said that he expects Apple to release three new Apple Watch models this year: the Apple Watch Series 8, updated next-generation Apple Watch SE 2 and an all-new rugged Apple Watch model targeted towards athletes, hikers and others who would use the device in extreme sporting environments.
Gurman has previously reported that the device will offer extra impact-resistance and protection to appeal to users who want to wear an Apple Watch but fear to do so because of the environments they would wear it in, where it is important the device would be robust and durable enough to withstand daily use, similar to Casio’s G-Shock watches.
Touching on the Apple Watch Series 8, Gurman says the new wearable will offer a speed increase over the Apple Watch Series 7, although next year’s model will boast “an all-new processor.”
