Apple has no plans to release new larger-screen iMac, according to report
Apple discontinued the 27-inch iMac on Tuesday, leaving last year’s redesigned M1 24-inch model as the only iMac available to purchase. Rumors had suggested that a larger version of the M1 model was in the works to replace the 27-inch machine however, a new report from 9to5Mac‘s Filipe Espósito suggests the company currently has “no plans to release a larger-screen iMac in the near future.”
Apple notably didn’t update the 27-inch iMac last year when it launched its completely redesigned 24-inch model to replace the ageing Intel-powered 21-inch machine, with reports at the time claiming that the iPhone maker had focused its attention on launching the 24-inch model first, with a new 27-inch model slated to appear during the first quarter of 2022.
However, 9to5Mac has reported that according to sources, who correctly provided details about Apple’s new Mac Studio and Studio Display prior to their announcement that the company has no plans to release a larger-screen iMac in the near future, with an updated second-generation 24-inch iMac planned for launch next year.
Rumors have suggested Apple may be bringing back its now-discontinued iMac Pro at some point this year however, following the launch of the Mac Studio and Studio Display at March’s “Peek performance” Apple event, those rumors have now fizzled out, with display analyst Ross Young saying earlier this week on Twitter that what his sources thought could be a new iMac Pro was actually a new “Studio Display Pro” that Apple plans to release later this year.
