Apple releases watchOS 8.4, fixing Apple Watch charging bug
Apple has released watchOS 8.4, fixing a bug from the previous watchOS 8.3 update which prevented some chargers from working properly.
As reported in December, users were quick to notice that following the release of watchOS 8.3, their third-party chargers seemingly stopped fully charging their devices. Apple Watch owners reported their watches will no longer charge more than about 2% before stopping entirely, while others have actually spotted a battery drain while connected to the charger. However, when placed on the official Apple-branded charger, the watch charges as expected.
watchOS 8.4 has been in beta testing since mid-December, with the beta cycle not revealing any new updates or capabilities, suggesting that today’s update focuses on improving the overall watchOS 8 experience and useability while also addressing the charging bug.
With the release of watchOS 8.4, Apple is also rolling out iOS 15.3 and iPadOS 15.3, fixing a recently discovered Safari bug that could leak a users’ browsing history and Google ID to websites that use the IndexedDB JavaScript API to see the URLs recently visited by a user.
