Apple to launch new 27-inch iMac with 120Hz ProMotion display in early 2022, says analyst
Analyst Ross Young is predicting that Apple will announce a new 27-inch iMac during the first quarter of 2022, featuring mini-LED 120Hz displays like those on the recently announced M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pro models.
In a tweet on Tuesday originally misconstrued to be information about a new 27-inch mini-LED external monitor, Young suggests Apple’s next iMac update will feature ProMotion display technology, offering an adaptive refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz.
Apple is now half way through a two-year transition away from Intel processors in the Mac.
The transition started last year with the launch of the M1 chip in the 2020 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini. The M1 roll-out continued with Apple’s redesigned 24-inch iMac earlier this year, and went a step further with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips announced on Monday.
Apple’s new 27-inch iMac would likely feature the next-generation M-series chip, likely the “M2” processor, though Young did not comment not this.
