Apple now classifies the original Apple Watch as “vintage”
Back in 2015 the very first Apple Watch was released for sale. Now, here we are six years later and we’re up to Apple Watch Series 7 and with that the Cupertino company has added the original Apple Watch to the vintage products list.
Apple considered a product vintage after they have stopped distributing them for sale more than five years ago, but less than seven years ago. After seven years, Apple then considers the product obsolete. This is the first time Apple has ever added a watch to the vintage list. In addition to the original Apple Watch, the 13-inch and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pros from 2015 were also added to the vintage products list.
As far as repairs go, vintage products are eligible for repairs but subject to parts availability. When a products moves into obsolete status, a product loses all chance of repair. The one exception are Macs up to 10 years old which could be eligible for a battery replacement.
