Apple to launch iPhone with under-display Touch ID in 2023, foldable iPhone coming in 2024
Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared a new research note that outlines his expectations for Apple’s future iPhone models, suggesting that under-display Touch ID won’t arrive until at least 2023, and a foldable iPhone is still years away.
According to Kuo, development of under-display Touch ID technology has been delayed and now won’t likely arrive with next year’s new iPhone as previously rumored. Instead, Kuo says he expects Apple to launch its first under-display Touch ID iPhone in 2023, with “lower than expected development progress” causing the one-year slip.
The report suggests Apple is readying a new punch-hole display design to launch next year, pointing to the new device featuring a 48 megapixel camera, under-display Face ID and the removal of the notch.
Delving further into the future, Kuo says Apple’s first foldable iPhone will likely launch towards the end of 2024, previously predicting the new device would feature an 8-inch QHD+ flexible OLED display, with shipments expected to reach 15-20 million units.
Kuo also touches upon Apple’s rumored new iPhone SE with 5G, reaffirming his previous predictions that the device will launch in 2022.
Leaker Jon Prosser shared concepts earlier this month envisioning the iPhone 14 based on alleged information and design details obtained from a source. According to Prosser, next year’s new iPhone will boast an all-new titanium design, featuring a hole-punch front camera, a thicker chassis with no rear camera bump, iPhone 4-style round volume buttons, and more.
