iPadOS updates can be downloaded over 5G on new M1 iPad Pro
Apple has confirmed that future iPadOS software updates will be available to download over 5G on the new M1 iPad Pro, saving users from having to be connected to Wi-Fi to be able to download the latest updates.
Similar to how it did when the iPhone 12 launched last year, Apple has published a new support document outlining how the iPad Pro has various data modes, including an ‘Allow More Data on 5G’ option which will enable higher data-usage features for apps and system tasks. These include higher-quality FaceTime, HD content on Apple TV, Apple Music songs and videos, and iPadOS updates over cellular.
This setting also allows third-party apps to use more cellular data for enhanced experiences.
The M1 iPad Pro with 5G also offers two additional data modes: ‘Standard’ and ‘Low Data Mode.’ The first allows automatic updates and background tasks on cellular and uses standard quality settings for video and FaceTime. The latter helps reduce Wi-Fi and cellular data usage by pausing automatic updates and background tasks.
