Like AirPods, HomePod won’t support Apple Music Lossless Audio
Apple announced it was bringing improved sound quality to Apple Music subscribers with the addition of Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos earlier today, with it revealed shortly after that its line of AirPods won’t support Lossless Audio, one of the updates coming to Apple Music, because the models aren’t compatible with the Apple ‘Lossless’ files.
As reported by MacRumors, it has now been confirmed that HomePod also won’t support Apple Music Lossless Audio, however, it will support Spatial Audio, which gives artists the opportunity to create immersive audio experiences for their listeners with multidimensional sound and clarity.
Spatial Audio enables artists to mix music so the sound comes from all around and from above.
The feature will be coming to all Apple Music subscribers for no added cost next month.
Apple says Spatial Audio will be available for thousands of tracks at launch.
