iPhone factory starts mass recruitment drive ahead of iPhone 13 production
Apple’s primary production partner, Foxconn is starting a mass recruitment drive ahead of this year’s new iPhone models entering production in the coming months, with the South China Morning Post reporting how the factory is offering bonuses to entice new workers.
According to the report, Foxconn is paying a 7,500 yuan (US$1,158) bonus to new employees who work for the company at its Zhenghzhou factory for 90 days, and be on duty for at least 55 days, up from 6,500 yuan offered on April 26 and 6,000 yuan on April 15.
It isn’t unusual for Foxconn to mass recruit ahead of Apple’s next-generation iPhones entering production. Last year, the factory offered a 10,000 yuan bonus (US$1,554) for staff working at least 55 days over a 90 period in the lead up to the launch of the iPhone 12, which was behind schedule to the impact COVID-19 had on Apple and its supply chain.
Foxconn typically recruits staff to work its next-generation iPhone assembly lines later in the year, suggesting that workers will focus on the iPhone 12 assembly lines to begin with as the iPhone 12 series continues to sell well globally.
