Packaging suggests AirTags may have been ready to ship since 2019
Apple finally announced its long-rumored AirTag item trackers last week during its “Spring Loaded” special event following years of speculation over the iPhone maker’s new Tile-like device.
Sold individually at $29 or in a pack of four for $99, AirTag integrates with the Find My app to allow users to track items such as handbags, keys, backpacks, or other items from their iPhone.
Apple says, “AirTag is a super-easy way to keep track of your stuff. Attach one to your keys, slip another in your backpack. And just like that, they’re on your radar in the Find My app, where you can also track down your Apple devices and keep up with friends and family.”
With in-store pickups and home deliveries starting today, ZONEofTECH YouTuber Daniel, who received AirTags and an Apple key ring today, has noticed that the documentation inside the box suggest AirTags and their accompanying accessories have been ready to ship for up to two years.
So, the AirTag box says 2020.
The Leather Keyring says 2019.

First reported by MacRumors who cite Daniel’s discovery, the paperwork for the official AirTag Key Ring has “2019” has the trademark date, and “2020” on the box of the tag itself, pointing to the two products being prepared and ready to ship since then.
Why Apple has taken so long to launch the AirTag is unknown, but it sure looks as if Apple has been sat on these for as long as we have been all eagerly awaiting them.
