How to change and replace the AirTag battery
Unlike most Apple products, AirTag features a removable coin cell battery that can easily be swapped out and replaced.
According to Apple, AirTag has been designed to keep going for more than a year on a standard battery, based on usage of four play sound events and one Precision Finding event per day.
AirTags were introduced by Apple in April. The small item trackers hook onto belongings such as wallets, keys, backpacks, and more so that users can see their item’s whereabouts in the Find My app, and receive notifications whenever they become separated or lost.
Here’s everything you need to know about AirTags
How to change and replace the AirTag battery
- Flip the AirTag so the white side is facing downwards. If you’re using a case or Apple AirTag loop, remove it so the tag is on its own
- With two fingers, push in on the metal side of the AirTag and twist the metal as if you were unscrewing a plastic bottle cap or child safety lock
- Simply lift out the battery and replace it with the + side facing upwards
AirTag requires a CR2032 coin cell battery which can easily be found online and in most general stores.
