Facebook and Instagram down for many users
Facebook and Instagram are both experiencing widespread outages that are leaving the services down and unavailable for many users around the world.
Social networking giant Facebook, which owns Instagram, is showing error messages to users trying to access the services online and through the mobile apps, saying “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can,” with many users taking to Twitter to complain of the services being unavailable.
It is also understood that WhatsApp, another service owned by Facebook, is experiencing some technical difficulties.
The cause of the outage is unknown but comes just days after information from 533 million Facebook users was exposed to hackers, leaking phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, birthdates, and email addresses.
According to DownDetector, nearly 150,000 people have reported issues with Facebook.
Instagram is showing a pop-up reading “We’re sorry but something went wrong. Please try again.”
