Apple says 29W power adapter incompatible with new MagSafe Duo Charger
Apple has confirmed that it’s legacy 29W power adapter is incompatible with the new MagSafe Duo Charger that launched earlier this month.
The MagSafe Duo Charger allows users to simultaneously charge either their iPhone or AirPods Wireless Charging Case alongside an Apple Watch.
As spotted by AppleInsider, Apple says without explanation in a new support document that the charging accessory is “incompatible” with the Apple 29W USB-C power adapter, which was replaced in 2018 with a 30W version.
Presumably, the reason the adapter does not work with the MagSafe Duo Charger is that it does not support the necessary 5V/3A or 9V/1.67A power ratings.
Use the included USB-C to Lightning cable to plug in your MagSafe Duo Charger to a recommended 20 watt (W) or greater Apple USB-C power adapter* or a compatible third-party USB-C adapter. You can also connect to a USB-C port on a Mac or PC.
Apple recommends a 20W power adapter to be used with the MagSafe Duo Charger, which is sold separately.
