macOS Big Sur: What’s new in Messages
Apple has released macOS Big Sur, bringing an all-new design, the biggest Safari update ever, improvements to app, and much more. – Read about macOS Big Sur here.
Messages in particular has received a major update, bringing across many of the new features introduced with iOS 14.
Let’s take a look at what’s new in Messages with macOS Big Sur:
Pinned Conversations: Users can now pin conversations to the top of their messages list app for quick access.
Search & Attachments: Search in the Messages app has been entirely redesigned — organising results into links, photos, and matching terms — to help users quickly find what they are looking for, and now an icon is shown in the conversation view to easily send images, GIFs, and videos.
Memoji: Users can now create Memoji on the Mac. macOS Big Sur syncs existing Memoji from iPhone and iPad to the Mac, and allows for those pre-made characters to be customized and sent as stickers.
Inline Replies & Mentions: Like iOS 14, users can now directly reply to a message in a group conversation with inline replies, as well as mentioning another user in the conversation. Unfortunately, Apple still hasn’t introduced the ability to unsend/delete messages, like on WhatsApp.
Redesign: As with the rest of the system, Messages has an all-new, fresher design with more translucently, curved corners, and more. – Read about macOS Big Sur here.
macOS Big Sur is rolling out now as an update in System Preferences for free, and it is available to anyone who has a compatible Mac.
