6.1-inch iPhone 12 to be Apple’s best-selling model, says Kuo
Apple’s upcoming 6.1-inch iPhone 12 is expected to be the best-selling device out of the four new 2020 models set to be announced next Tuesday, according to respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo claims the new device, rumored to be priced from $799, will account for 40% of shipments at launch, with the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and larger 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, each expected to account for 20% of shipments in the launch period.
According to AppleInsider who obtained a copy of the research note, Kuo expects the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini, despite its rumored $699 price tag, won’t be as popular as the more expensive 6.1-inch iPhone 12, suggesting the smaller display size won’t be appealing to consumers.
Kuo expects the price to be one of the main deciders on the 2020 iPhone lineup’s success, claiming 5G won’t be that important to consumers, especially given that not all countries and regions have full 5G coverage.
Earlier reports suggested Apple plans on shipping around 80 million new 5G iPhones, but Kuo says the number will likely be less as the original estimate was based on component orders, which would include supplies for devices that won’t ship in the launch period.
