iPhone 12 again rumored not to support 120Hz, narrower notch expected on 5.4-inch model
Reliable industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed Apple’s upcoming 2020 iPhone line will not support a 120Hz refresh rate due to battery life concerns, suggesting the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will have a slightly narrower notch compared to the larger 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models launching in October.
Kuo, who has built a strong reputation for his accurate insights into Apple’s roadmap, claims Apple has chosen not to introduce a 120Hz refresh rate this year due to concerns over 5G cellular battery consumption, and how this combined with new display technology could impact a device’s battery life and “significantly hurt the user experience.”
Corroborating on earlier reports, Kuo suggests Apple will launch four new iPhones this fall, including a 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 to replace the current-generation iPhone 11, and a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max.
Kuo suggests Apple’s 2021 iPhone models could use LTPO technology to lower the display’s power consumption which could allow for 120Hz refresh rates to be introduced with the iPhone 12S/iPhone 13.
