Tom Hanks disappointed with release of ‘Greyhound’ on Apple TV+
Tom Hanks has spoken out about the release of his latest film, “Greyhound,” on Apple TV+, saying it is an “absolute heartbreak” that the movie launched in this new format opposed to the planned cinema release.
During an interview with the Guardian, Hanks poked fun at Apple’s PR policies, saying “the cruel whipmasters at Apple” ordered him to sit in front of a white screen during his interview, saying they didn’t want anybody being distracted by Hanks’ office instead of focusing on the movie.
He said he looked like he was part of “a witness protection program, but here I am, bowing to the needs of Apple TV.”
In “Greyhound,” Hanks plays the role of George Krause, an officer given command of a Navy destroyer Greyhound during the Battle of the Atlantic. The film shows Krause battle fight with his own self doubts and personal demons along with the enemy to prove that he belongs in command.
The film, written by Hanks and produced by Sony Pictures, was originally set to be released in movie theatres on Father’s Day weekend, but due to the coronavirus pandemic the studio had opened up offers to premier the film on digital storefronts, with Apple said to have paid $70 million for the title in a bidding war with other streaming services.
“Greyhound” is available to stream now with an Apple TV+ subscription.
