27-inch iMac shipping estimates slip into September
With rumors suggesting a refreshed 27-inch iMac is on the horizon, shipping estimates for the machine have slipped back into September on Apple.com, the second time recently that Apple is extending delivery times for the model.
Extended shipping estimates are typically a clear sign that new hardware is ready to launch, with stock of iPads, MacBooks and iPhones usually dwindling a couple of weeks before a new model is introduced.
Prior to WWDC two weeks ago, reports claimed Apple was ready to announce a fully redesigned iMac during the event, marking the first major design overhaul since 2012. Prior to this, leaker Jon Prosser said a new iMac could drop “at any time,” but we’re yet to see any new hardware launch.
Apple CEO Tim Cook teased that new Mac hardware would arrive before the end of the year as the company announced its transition to Apple built silicon processors in future Mac products, but no specific models were mentioned.
Given what’s going on in the world, it’s unclear if the extended delivery estimates are partly caused by COVID-19 and the impact it has had on Apple’s production.
Last month, Apple extended iMac shipping estimates by 3-4 weeks.
