Final assembly of the iPhone 12 delayed to early October, claims Nikkei
Apple is facing major manufacturing delays on lines producing this year’s upcoming new iPhone 12 range, according to a new report from Nikkei Asian Review that claims Apple is experiencing production delays of between four weeks and two months.
As we near the month of September, when Apple typically unveils its next-generation iPhone models, we have seen a flurry of conflicting reports speculating on when we will see this year’s new models be released.
Last week, a new report from financial services and investments company Wedbush claimed suppliers may have now caught up with the rumored delays and put the launch of this year’s new iPhone models back on schedule for September, whereas yesterday it was claimed that Apple is cutting iPhone 12 component orders in half from its original estimates for 2020, instead preparing suppliers to ramp-up production in early 2021.
According to the report, Apple has aggressively tried to avoid delays caused by the fallout from COVID-19 and the impact it had on factory operations earlier in the year, saying it “wouldn’t be surprising if there are further delays” beyond October.
What the progress looks like now is months of delay in terms of mass production, but Apple is doing everything it can to shorten the postponement. There’s a chance that the schedule could still be moved ahead, one source told Nikkei. – Some final iPhone assembly could be delayed to early October, and it wouldn’t be surprising if there are further delays because there are still a lot of tests going on now and the final designs have not yet been locked down, the person said.
All four of this year’s new models are expected to offer 5G cellular performance, with this set to be one of the biggest selling points for the new models, alongside an all-new design similar to the squared design of the iPad Pro.
The Apple Post has released exclusive 2020 iPhone renders, offering what we believed to be the most accurate representation of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
According to reports, Apple is rumored to be dropping the free headphones and charger that usually come packaged in the box of new iPhones, starting this year with the iPhone 12, instead leaving customers to purchase the accessories separately.
