New 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini LED display expected between late 2020 and early 2021
Apple has reportedly sent an updated 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini LED display into trial production ahead of an official launch planned for late 2020 or early 2021, according to Korean website The Elec.
Rumors have been pointing to Apple launching an updated iPad Pro with a mini LED display since the introduction of the current-generation device introduced at the beginning of the year, with sources saying the new iPad will offer the same display quality as OLED but consume less power and allow for Apple to create thinner, lighter designs.
According to the source cited by The Elec, LG Display will be the supplier of panels for the new iPad, marking Apple’s first order with LG Display to produce such components, with the new iPad Pro being one of many new devices expected to transition to using mini LED displays over the coming years.
In a previous report, it was said that production was delayed because of factory shutdowns in China earlier this year caused by the novel coronavirus, causing Apple to push the release of the new iPad Pro to early 2021, but that is yet to be seen.
