References to rumored new Apple News+ Audio uncovered
Apple is rumored to be working on an update to its pay-monthly Apple News+ service that would see stories available to subscribers in both text and audio formats. Now, icons leaked from within the recently released developer beta of iOS 13.5.5 seemingly confirm the rumours of an upcoming Audio extension to the premium news service.
MacRumors have shared three icons destined to be included in the service, including a main title image clearly revealing the “Apple News+ Audio” name, an icon which may be used to indicate to a user when a story is available in an audio format and an image believed to be used when an audio news recording ends.
The Apple Post reported last month that Apple was said to be approaching select Apple News+ publishers to pitch the new audio stories feature, with Apple offering to handle production costs, and compensate publishers in the same way it compensates them for the written content available on Apple News+.
Tim Cook revealed in April that Apple News has 125 million monthly active users, marking an increase of roughly 25 million users since usage information was last shared at the beginning of the year.
