Apple may not include wired EarPods headphones with the iPhone 12
Apple may not include its wired EarPods headphones in the box of this year’s new iPhone 12 in an effort to increase sales of its range of AirPods, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who suggests customers who wish to use wired headphones with their iPhone 12 may have to begin purchasing them separately.
Kuo’s report squashes earlier claims by the likes of Jon Prosser who suggested that Apple has new AirPods ready to launch “at any time”, noting that Apple won’t release new versions of the entry-level AirPods or premium AirPods Pro until 2021 at the earliest.
Within the report, Kuo claims Apple may heavily promote or discount the AirPods this holiday season in an effort to increase sales, leaving room for speculation that we may see Apple introduce a special promotion for customers purchasing one of this year’s new iPhone models to receive a discount when also purchasing AirPods or AirPods Pro.
Apple currently sells its wired EarPods for $29.
Kuo is upping his AirPods sales estimates for this year from 80 to 93 million units. The increase follows after reports claimed Apple would “aggressively” boost AirPods production during 2020, but the constrains caused by the novel coronavirus may have put those plans in jeopardy.
