Apple to launch new AirPods in May, possibly alongside updated MacBook Pro

New AirPods, possibly the rumored “AirPods Pro Lite”, which were allegedly intended to be unveiled during March, are now ready to launch, according to leaker Jon Prosser who claims Apple’s new earbuds could be revealed alongside an updated MacBook Pro as soon as next month.
Taiwanese supply chain publication DigiTimes has included the mentioning of “AirPods Pro Lite” in several reports since the beginning of the year, most recently claiming the new earbuds were in production ahead of a launch in the second quarter of 2020.
While the details surrounding the new “Lite” AirPods are unknown, it is believed they could offer some of the noise cancelation technologies found on the current $249 AirPods Pro at a more affordable price.
Rumors have suggested the new AirPods could be designed specifically for use during sports and fitness, similar to the Powerbeats in-ear sport headphones, with that being the key differentiator between the regular AirPods and their premium counterparts.

Prosser has previously shared screenshots from Target employees who found references to “Apple AirPods (X Generation)” with a $399.99 price tag in their in-store inventory systems, which could be the rumored high-end over-ear headphones said to be in development.
While a new 14.1-inch MacBook Pro is rumored, the updated MacBook Pro mentioned today by Prosser is likely an update to the current 13-inch model, which is expected to drop the controversial, problem-prone butterfly keyboard mechanism in favour of Apple’s more reliable scissor switch keyboard design.
