Upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED display possibly ‘delayed’ until early 2021
Apple unveiled new iPad Pro models in March, featuring an A12Z Bionic chip and a new rear camera unit which includes a LiDAR sensor for enhanced augmented reality experiences. A day after the release, rumours claimed Apple is working on yet another new iPad Pro, this time featuring 5G cellular capabilities and a mini-LED display, expected to launch at the end of the year.
However, a new report from analyst Jeff Pu in an investor note, obtained by MacRumors, claims the launch of the upcoming device may possibly be ‘delayed’ until early 2021, likely as a result of the delays in production because of factory shutdowns in China earlier this year caused by the novel coronavirus.
Similar to what is expected from this year’s new 2020 iPhone lineup, the new iPad Pro is expected to feature 5G cellular capabilities, made available in different variants dependant on the 5G infrastructure in each country and region the device is sold in.
The device is also expected to boast an A14X chip.
According to leading Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a report earlier this year, Apple will add a mini-LED display to the upcoming iPad Pro model that will “significantly improve productivity and the entertainment experience”.
Mini-LED displays will allow Apple to design thinner and lighter products, while offering the same benefits of OLED displays.
