Apple releases new Apple Maps Mobility Trends reporting tool
Apple has announced the release of a new Mobility Trends reporting tool, which shows the change in volume of people driving, walking or taking public transit amid the spread of COVID-19.
The tool aggregates data from Apple Maps users around the world to create a daily report that shows insights into the changes in habits amongst Apple Maps users, allowing for reports to be generated to show how many people are walking, using public transit services and driving, with the ability to filter the report by country, region, or city.
In Manchester, England, for example, the data shows the use of public transport is down 85% compared to before the UK government enforced stay at home rules in March. The report shows the amount of users driving in the city is down 79%, and the number of people walking while using Apple Maps is down 63%.
Apple today released a mobility data trends tool from Apple Maps to support the impactful work happening around the globe to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This mobility data may provide helpful insights to local governments and health authorities and may also be used as a foundation for new public policies by showing the change in volume of people driving, walking or taking public transit in their communities.
The reports, accessible via Apple’s website, are published daily with the option for users to download the complete data set in CSV form.
