‘iPhone 9’ appears on Canadian carrier SIM activation site
Virgin Mobile Canada is showing placeholders for the “iPhone 9” online on its SIM activation page ahead of the official release of Apple’s new low-cost iPhone models, which could be announced as soon as tomorrow.
The image, shared on Twitter by Cameron Cockings, via Jon Prosser, shows options for Silver, Grey and Red iPhone 9 models in both 64GB and 128GB storage configurations. The image follows moments after a report from a “highly trusted” reader cited by 9to5Mac claimed Apple’s forthcoming low-cost device would be called the “iPhone SE”, available also in a 256GB storage capacity – something not shown on Virgin Mobile Canada’s webpage.
Presumably, carriers would have all the relevant information relating to the new devices, so it could well be the case that Apple’s new devices could indeed be called the iPhone 9 however, at this point given the numerous reports all referring to the handset with different names, the official marketing name is anybody’s guess.
The source told 9to5Mac that the iPhone SE, which Apple will refer to as the 2020 version, would be available in three finishes: White, Black and PRODUCT (Red), matching what is shown by Virgin Mobile, but at this point there still doesn’t appear to be a clear indication as to what the device will be called.

When it does launch, the handset is expected to look almost identical to the iPhone 8, using Touch ID rather than Face ID and one single rear camera. The device is said to use modern internals such as the A13 processor, priced from $399.
By the looks of things, we won’t be waiting long to find out for sure what Apple will name its low-cost 2020 iPhone model.
