Apple TV+ streaming quality cut in Europe to reduce bandwidth usage
Apple has joined rivals Netflix and Amazon by agreeing to reduce the streaming quality of Apple TV+ shows across Europe in an effort to reduce bandwidth consumption to improve speed and connectivity for those self-isolating and relying on the internet to work from home.
In light of the coronavirus outbreak, streaming services have seen a sharp-rise in users watching on-demand content, resulting in a strain on internet networks and large amounts of bandwidth used while streaming 4K and HD video content.
Alongside Apple, Netflix and Amazon, Youtube has also said it will reduce video quality for users in Europe.
The news means European streaming service customers can expect more pixellated and not as sharp high definition videos for the foreseeable, leaving more bandwidth available for people working remotely and relying on the internet for educational purposes.
