iPhone sales down 60% in China during February
Apple saw iPhone sales plunge by 60% in China during February, according to government figures which showed the company sold just 494,000 phones in the month of February, down from 1.27 million devices the same month a year ago.
The drop comes amid the deadly coronavirus outbreak which has lead to vast parts of China being put into lockdown, with workplaces and schools closed and citizens told to isolate themselves away from the greater population.
Apple warned investors last month it does not expect to meet the revenue guidance it provided for the March quarter due to supply constraints and poor sales performance in China, backtracking on its previous forecasts for second quarter revenues which it had hoped to be in the $63 billion to $67 billion range, saying the company now doesn’t expect to hit even the lower-end of that scale.
