Apple appears to be readying Apple Pay for Mexican expansion
Apple appears to be readying Apple Pay to launch for users in Mexico, with customers in the country reporting being able to add cards from the Mexican bank Banregio to the Wallet app.
According to 9to5Mac, those who banking with Banregio, by changing the iPhone region to another one that already supports Apple Pay, the bank cards can be successfully added to the Wallet app.
It appears only Banregio customers are able to do this, suggesting Apple Pay may be exclusive to these customers at launch, with a gradual rollout of added issuers likely to take place throughout the year.
While bank cards can be added successfully, it’s not yet possible to verify them with the bank, since Apple has not yet officially launched Apple Pay in the country.
By the looks of things, Apple is eyeing up Mexico for its next Apple Pay expansion. No official release date has been shared.
