‘AirTags’ to be recharged wirelessly, using an inductive charger similar to Apple Watch
Apple’s upcoming Tile-like item trackers, ‘AirTags’ will be recharged wirelessly, using an inductive charger similar to the one used for the Apple Watch, according to a report Japanese blog Mac Otakara.
AirTags, which Apple is said to be producing “tens of millions of units in the second or third quarter of this year”, are now expected to be arriving alongside the release of the iPhone 12 lineup later this year, despite some rumors which claimed the trackers may arrive at WWDC in June.
Mac Otakara don’t specify in their report whether the same charger used for the Apple Watch will be used for AirTags, or if Apple will possibly release a smaller version to fit the presumable small shape of the trackers.
AirTag is expected to attach to valuables, such as wallets, backpacks, keys, and more, allowing users to track their belongings in the new Find My app on iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
It has been revealed that a “Items” tab will appear within the Find My app, which is rumored to notify users as soon as they become parted with their valuables, with the exception of when items have been left behind at a pre-defined “Safe Location”, such as at the user’s home or work place.
The AirTag is expected to be a small circle-shaped device with an Apple logo in the center.
