Apple begins rollout of at-home repair service
Apple has always offered repairs for devices at most of its retail stores, through genius bar appointments and online bookings. However, this week Apple has expanded that to offering repair services in your home.
The service involves one of its authorised service providers coming to your home or office, and then commencing repairing your devices there. The service, which was first spotted by MacRumors, can be accessed and booked through Apples support website. You will now be offered with not only mailing your device into Apple and in-store, but a third option will be present offering service ‘In select locations, onsite service may be available’.
This new service is said to be rolling out in six cities in the US at first, and then with the success rate of how the services does, one would imagine the service rolling out more widely in the US, then possibly to Europe in the future. Currently the service can only be booked online, through the support site.
The cites it currently operates in are; San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Houston and Dallas. It also only covers certain types of repairs. For example when scrolling the examples it offers is iPhone screen repair, but it did not list as available when looking for repairs for devices such as the iMac, or other kinds of iPhone repairs like battery replacements. There also seems to be an ‘onsite visit fee’ that will be charged if this option is chosen onto of the cost of repairs.
This is not the first time Apple has offered such a service, however it was only limited to enterprise customers until now.
