5.4-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro models to feature thinner displays in 2020
Rumors are suggesting Apple will release next year’s iPhone 12 Pro in two new screen sizes: 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch, featuring thinner displays with Samsung’s Y-OCTA technology that allows touchscreen circuitry to be directly patterned on the OLED panel without the need for a separate layer
The new sizes will mean the iPhone 12 Pro will be slightly smaller than the current iPhone 11 Pro which has a 5.8-inch Super Retina XDR display, whereas the iPhone 12 Pro Max would increase in size from 6.5-inch to 6.7-inch.
It’s unclear if the thinner display technology would translate to overall thinner iPhones next year as Apple may use the newly freed space to increase battery size, for example.
The new iPhone models are expected to include 5G cellular technology and boast an all-new design, reminiscent of the iPhone 4 featuring a metal frame structure and “a more complex segmentation design, new trenching and injection molding procedures, and sapphire or glass cover assembly to protect the trench injection molding structure.”, according to respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
