iPhone 11 Pro availability hints at which colors were most popular this year
Apple launched pre-orders yesterday for the iPhone 11, successor to the iPhone XR, and the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, replacements to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
Based purely on looks, the iPhone 11 Pro doesn’t differ that much from the iPhone XS asides from the slight repositioning of the volume, mute and lock buttons, the addition of a new Midnight Green color option, and most obviously, the triple-lens camera system on the back.
Unlike the iPhone XS lineup which was available in either Space Gray, Silver or Gold, Apple has added a new shade known as Midnight Green, which has drawn some strong reactions.
With the initial wave of pre-orders now “preparing to ship”, we’ve re-visited Apple.com to see if any models remain available for launch day delivery/in-store pick-up, and if the results show if any particular iPhone color is more widely available than others, helping map the popularity of this year’s models.
Stock checks of Apple.com in the U.S. show the Gold 64GB iPhone 11 Pro is the only remaining 5.8-inch iPhone model available on launch day, 24 hours after pre-orders started, whereas for the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max, the 64GB Midnight Green and 64GB Silver models are available for delivery on launch day.
Across the pond in the UK, stock checks reveal that like the US, the Gold iPhone 11 Pro remains available for launch day delivery, but in this case all storage options (64GB, 256GB & 512GB) are available. As for the larger iPhone 11 Pro Max, the Silver 64GB & 256GB models remain in stock alongside the Gold 512GB model.
Which color iPhone 11 Pro is most popular?
Based on these checks of Apple.com in the United States and United Kingdom, the Space Gray color option appears to be the most popular option for iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max customers, with Midnight Green as the second most popular choice.
It’s worth noting that while Apple.com is usually the best way to check iPhone demand, it could be possible that initial stock of the Space Gray and Midnight Green models was lower than Silver and Gold, meaning they sell out quicker and appear to be most popular. – Given that Space Gray is always a firm favorite and Midnight Green is new, this theory is most likely not the case as Apple would have anticipated high demand for these shades, but it’s worth noting.
