Apple rumored to release new ‘iPhone SE’ with 4.7-inch display in spring 2020
Apple is readying to breathe life back into its low-cost iPhone line, according to a new report which claims an all-new 4.7-inch model will debut in 2020.
Citing sources in Asia, Nikkei reports that the new early 2020 model will be Apple’s first low-cost smartphone since the launch of the iPhone SE in 2016, with the new model supposedly “viewed as the latest generation of the iPhone SE,” according to sources.
The report claims the device will be similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8, suggesting Apple will use Touch ID on the handset rather than Face ID, and presumably will feature large bezels at the top and bottom of the device, although some have suggested Apple will launch a new iPhone with under-screen embedded Touch ID in the near future, allowing Apple to use the same all-screen design introduced with the iPhone X, although we are taking these rumors with a pinch of salt for now.
An extract from the report says pricing is yet to be confirmed, and that the device will feature a liquid crystal display.
The size of the new model will be similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 that was introduced in 2017, three sources said. The model will share most of the same components with the flagship iPhones this year, and it will feature the lower-cost liquid crystal display that will help Apple achieve the lower starting price-tag, although the final pricing for the model is not yet settled, the people said.
