Apple reportedly cancels AR Apple Glasses project
Apple has reportedly “terminated” development of its rumored AR Apple Glasses project, with sources claiming the eyewear, which was destined to launch in 2020 has now been scrapped.
Apple has long been rumored to be working on AR glasses much like Google Glass which launched in 2013. Reports have previously claimed the glasses have been in development for years, with leaked medical reports showing in 2017 that an Apple employee reported eye pain after working with a new prototype, thought to be Apple Glasses.
The alleged termination of the project marks yet another major hardware cancelation by the company. Articles surrounding the departure of Chief Design Officer, Jony Ive who will leave Apple later this year to open his own independent design practice claimed Apple had been developing a full Apple television and Apple Car, said to have no physical steering wheel, though those projects are now said to have been put on hold indefinitely.
The Apple Post shared concept images created by Italian Industrial and Graphic Designer Xhakomo Doda in May that envisioned Apple’s new AR smart glasses, which imagined interchangeable frames and a sleek stainless steel casing with a sapphire crystal glass front and back housing the eyewear’s battery and internals.
