Apple again rumored to scrap 3D Touch from iPhone 11 in favor of Haptic Touch
Apple is once again rumored to be scrapping 3D Touch from the next-generation iPhone 11 models, with sources claiming Apple will rollout Haptic Touch, currently found on the iPhone XR, across the three new models due to debut this fall.
Numerous analysts have claimed that Apple will discontinue its pressure-sensitive displays and remove 3D Touch from the premium range of 2019 iPhone models, with the company replacing the technology with Haptic Touch, present on the current-generation iPhone XR, to allow the company to reduce its component costs, thus (hopefully) reducing the end retail price of the handsets.
Haptic Touch mimics 3D Touch by sensing when a user is pressing on the display and performing 3D Touch-like actions, such as the toggling of the flashlight on the lock screen, and opening menus in Control Center.
Apple’s range of iOS 13 developer beats has offered subtle hints that 3D Touch will soon be discontinued, with Apple continuing to enhance the capabilities of Haptic Touch to allow it to work near identically as traditional 3D Touch.
