Xiaomi uses official Apple marketing to advertise its new ‘Mimoji’ feature
Last week, Chinese Smartphone maker Xiaomi unveiled a new feature for its CC9 smartphones called “Mimoji” – a clone of Apple’s famous emoji-like customisable Memoji characters that launched alongside iOS 12 last year.
Xiaomi’s “new” Mimoji has been heavily marketed in-store and online as one of the flagship features of the Chinese device, but now it appears they have gone even further and used some of Apples own advertising for Memoji to promote their clone product.
The company has embedded Apple’s own Apple Music – Khalid + Memoji ad within the marketing material shown online to advertise the smartphone, a move Xu Jieyun, Xiaomi’s general manager for public relations claimed to be an e-commerce mix-up caused by staff “uploading the wrong content.”
Xiaomi has a reputation for cloning Apple gadgets in the past, with the company most infamously creating ‘AirDots’, a clone of the AirPods.
