Filings suggest ECG functionality will soon launch on Apple Watch in Canada
Apple appears to be readying the launch of its ECG app for Apple Watch Series 4 in Canada, with the Health Canada database showing that Apple has now received the required government clearance to launch the health-related feature in the country.
The expansion of the ECG app would mean customers in Canada could perform an electrocardiogram on their Apple Watch Series 4 to show whether their heart rhythm indicates signs of atrial fibrillation, a serious form of irregular heart rhythm, or a normal sinus rhythm.
The feature launched exclusively in the United States late last year, with Apple adding support to users in Hong Kong and 19 countries across Europe, including the United Kingdom, Portugal, France and Germany with the release of watchOS 5.2 in March, followed by enabling the feature in Croatia, Czech Republic, Iceland, Poland and Slovakia. with the release of watchOS 5.2.1 earlier this month.
The filings don’t indicate when Apple will release the ECG app in Canada, although it will likely be with the next release of watchOS.
