Apple lowers price of HomePod around the world, down from $349 to $299

Apple has quietly lowered the price of the HomePod worldwide, taking the Siri-enabled smart speaker down from its original price of $349 to $299 in the United States, and from £319 to £279 in the United Kingdom.
The updated pricing sees Apple reduce the cost of HomePod by around 15%.
Apple doesn’t often discount products, especially when no successor is planned (or at least that we know of) for the near future. The move to reduce the price of the speaker comes amid reports that claim HomePod accounted for just six percent of the U.S. smart speakers purchased through the fourth quarter of 2018.
Reports have claimed Apple is considering introducing a low-cost HomePod speaker priced between $150 – $200 to compete with the Amazon Echo and Google Home which are priced significantly cheeper than the current HomePod.
Apple’s refurbished HomePod models which first went on sale priced at $299 in the United States in November remain available to purchase, now at the reduced price of $259.00.
